Remembering Lisa Stortz, ‘The Tulip Lady’
From East Isles Neighborhood Association:
As many neighbors know, Lisa Stortz, aka the Tulip Lady at 25th and Humboldt, passed away in June. Lisa's generosity and acts of kindness to her neighbors and our community included:
planting thousands of tulip bulbs on her property each year (28,000 last fall);
hosting happy hours for neighbors on her block; and
charming trick-or-treaters with full-sized candy bars delivered down a custom slide
Henry LaBounta, East Isles board member, Chair of the East Isles Green Team, and neighbor says, "Lisa gave us many gifts. Most importantly she gave us the gift of getting to know each other at her weekly happy hours and creating a lasting, caring community. She planted the massive blooming tulip display that heralded the start of Spring each year and delighted hundreds of visitors from all over the Twin Cities. And she gave donations and gear to our neighborhood environmental work. Her generosity knew no bounds."
If you'd like to honor Lisa, please consider planting tulips in your yard this fall - October is the perfect month to plant. Also, on Friday, October 10th, from 9am – 10am, join neighbors to plant bulbs in a new memorial tulip garden in Joanne Levin Triangle Park.
Neighbors like Lisa are what make this neighborhood so great.
